Hotel San Cristobal: A beautiful, blissful resort in Baja, Mexico

By Nina · On 17th June 2019

Even before we arrived, I knew that Hotel San Cristobal was going to be great. This was based on my experience of other hotels from this group, Bunkhouse, in Austin TX (Hotel Saint Cecilia, Hotel San Jose, and Austin Motel), all of which are beautiful and so hip it hurts.

And San Cristobal proved to be even better than I had hoped.

Located in Baja California Sur, the peninsula on the western side of Mexico, and comprising a 32-room hotel, Restaurant Benno, and a pool bar, there’s really no reason to leave the property for the duration of your stay…

There’s no chance of getting bored, even if you’re not the lie-by-the-pool-and-read type – there’s plenty going on: Take a cooking class with Restaurant Benno’s head chef (we made ceviche verde and fish tacos from seabass that was caught off the beach that very morning; $100 pp), or a yoga class on the beachside patio (free). And then there are beach bonfires, a Friday happy hour with live music, walking trails from the hotel, plus an on-site boutique…

There’s even a chapel on the property – plus a derelict abalone canning factory, which makes a surprisingly cool venue! – making this is the ultimate spot for a downright dreamy destination wedding.

At the end of our 72 hour stay (during which we’d left San Cristobal for a grand total of 3 hours!) we were blissfully relaxed, sated with margaritas and guacamole, and vowing to return to this year-round paradise ASAP.

  • We found THE MOST AMAZING hidden bar in Austin, but they have a strict no photos rule, so you'll have to make do with this picture of the (actually pretty cool) outside wall... Founded by an Englishman and an Irishman, and serving some of the best drinks we've ever had - we went twice during our 5 day trip. Look up Here Nor There (book via the app; promise it's worth it)  #HYHOIinAustin
  • New Austin brunch fave: Mattie's. A grand white house with wraparound porch, set amongst a grove of Texas Live Oaks. (Unsurprisingly it's a popular wedding venue) Stunning interiors, bottomless coffee and massive plates of French toast ☕ that's the way to my heart!  @mattiesaustin
