In a city where hotels don’t come cheaper than $200 a night, Boro Hotel is one to know. Located in Queens, across the water from Manhattan, the neighbourhood itself may not be the place to be just yet – but it’s evolving rapidly and is certainly one to watch. And really, when the Boro rooms are this affordable (from $125), and the design this good, and it’s just three stops on the subway till you’re in Manhattan, it’s a no-brainer.
I would 100% advocate the upgrade to a Manhattan View room, as nothing beats waking up to *that* skyline each morning, and Queens really does provide the perfect vantage point! (It’s worth noting that all rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, though.)
Modern, minimalist, almost-Scandinavian interiors are blended with the Brutalist concrete and cinderblock structure of the building – and the lobby even features a modern fire pit, coffee bar and communal check-in table. Plumen lightbulbs, Vitra stools and Frette bed linen complete the luxurious in-room experience – all in all, a total steal for the price, and well worth the slightly sub-prime location.
