When The Talented Mr Fox (AKA Matt Whiley) opens a new bar in your ‘hood, you pay attention. With Peg + Patriot (Bethnal Green) and Talented Mr Fox (now closed) rating among my absolute fave watering holes in all London, I knew Scout would be good. And of course Whiley proved me right.
> The interior is simple and chic – the exterior suitably clandestine.
> The location is excellent, just east of Old Street roundabout.
> The menu is short, seasonal and British, showcasing the local ingredients’ incredible flavours.
> The bar adopts a sustainable ‘minimal waste’ approach, changing the menu daily to utilise in-season produce from foragers, farmers and growers alike.
> The inventive cocktail list sparks so many questions! (e.g. How does he get Parsnip into a cocktail? What does the House Ferment involve? Hint: There’s a full-on laboratory downstairs, where all the the distilling, reducing, infusing and fermentation takes place! “The Lab” can also be hired for private events).
> There’s also a zero waste food offering.
> And the drinks are so beautifully served! (e.g. Huge chunks of ice with the Scout logo suspended within the frozen block! The finest glassware, so beautifully delicate that every sip is ever so tentative! Intense herbal garnishes that smell divine!)
This one’s sure to become a date night favourite – I suggest you bookmark it immediately.
