Palatino: Multi-course traditional Italian dining in Clerkenwell

One of the best things about traditional Italian restaurants is the sheer number of courses that are served as standard.  Obviously I’m not talking about the pizzerias – but take new Clerkenwell restaurant Palatino as an example: aperitivo, antipasti, primi, secondi (with contorni, if you like), dolci
Obviously I sampled them all, ensconced in a moodily lit booth, with yellow leather seats, spritz cocktail in hand, attentive Italian stallion waiter at hand.
It’s a lengthy menu, but if you want my advice: the deep fried courgette flowers are a must to start you off; the tonarelli cacio e pepe proves that simple is beautiful; the chicken, pancetta & pistachio meatballs, served on a pillow of polenta, are not to be missed; and for dessert, it’s all about the chocolate mousse with pistachios & honeycomb.
This is an impeccable date spot – the menu is interesting and shareable (Lady & The Tramp moment, anyone?), the service attentive yet invisible, and the upscale warehouse styling spot on.  Five courses will set you back about £75 (make it £100 including cocktails).
