If like me, you are on the hunt for the best banana bread in London, you can halt the search right now. I’m giving away all my secrets here, but… It’s at Brickwood. Fans can rejoice that there are two Brickwood outposts, both on the Northern Line, in Balham and Clapham.
I suggest an early morning visit, as it does get busy (particularly at the weekend) – though there is an outdoor patio at the Clapham branch, and a few seats out front at each of the cafés.
The coffee is awesome, and the banana bread is thick-cut, served warm and spread with mind-blowingly good espresso butter. Definitely the best combination.
Breakfast and brunch options are varied, from eggs on sourdough to granola to yummy savoury muffins, and there are a fair few tables plus WiFi within the bare brick, industrially lit little café.
