A holiday in the Big Apple doesn’t mean your race training need fall by the wayside. Quite the opposite in fact, thanks to Mile High Run Club.
Located in NoHo, this novel fitness studio features a modern, moodily lit studio that’s chock-a-block with one thing: Woodway 4Front treadmills – the top-of-the-range choice for the ultimate indoor running experience (costing over $11k each!).
Choose between a Dash or a Distance class: Dash classes are 45 minutes in length, and include intense intervals followed by kettle bell resistance training; Distance classes are good for those training for longer distance races – intervals are continuous, incline comes and goes, there’s the occasional sprint thrown in for good measure, and you don’t stop pounding the treadmill for the full 60 minutes, usually covering 5 to 7 miles in a class (I was super proud of my 6.4 mile achievement!).
Classes are run by elite runners – Michael was my trainer (an Olympic 1500m runner who can run sub-4-minute miles!), and he gave speed and incline instruction alongside running form and posture advice. The workout is tailored to each individual’s experience and preferences, making it a great choice for all levels of runner.
Debora, the Mile High founder, explained that the name of her studio was inspired by the high you feel after a good run. And it’s true – my class put me in the best mood; the motivational tunes, mood lighting and Michael’s encouragement leading to a good dose of endorphins.
Facilities-wise, it’s a dream. The Kangen water fountain promises water that is “micro-clustered for easy absorption, alkalised to neutralise acid and ionised to energise and hydrate faster”…! In the changing rooms, there are rain showers, Red Flower bath products and hairdryers for sprucing up to face the city afterwards.
I loved Mile High Run Club – and am working on persuading Debora to open a London branch asap!
