I stumbled across Origin Coffee Roasters in Shoreditch last weekend, and immediately branded it “probably the trendiest coffee shop in Shoreditch” – which is no mean feat, if you consider just how trendy most of Shoreditch is! Perhaps it was the screed concrete floors – or even the concrete topped tables? Or it could have been the mismatched Ercol chairs, or maybe the whimsical black and white mural (hand-drawn by John Kilburn) on the wall behind the brew bar?
Who knows, but Origin have got it very very right with this Charlotte Road caffeine stop.
We visited on “the second hottest day of the year”, so settled for a myriad of iced drinks – iced filter (so smooth and drinkable) and brew cocktails (cascara & tonic, or cold brew mixed with ginger beer – shouldn’t work but totally does), served stylishly in carafes on little wooden trays. Obviously the hot stuff is top class too – espresso or pour over, it’s all possible, with a small selection of sweet and savory snacks on the side too.
Origin takes its environmental impact very seriously, using the world’s first environmentally friendly coffee roaster at their roastery in Cornwall along with strict ethical standards, so your caffeeine fix is essentially guilt-free.
Origin’s totally nailed it – “the trendiest coffee shop in Shoreditch” has gone straight in at the top, as my favourite in East London too.
