Old Spike Roastery is achieving big things given it’s tiny size. A small unit on Peckham Rye, it’s different from every other coffee shop I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting for one reason: In addition to the in-house roasting setup and cafe space, it’s a social enterprise, set up to fight homelessness in the local area.
That’s a pretty big mission for a cafe, but the team at Old Spike provide expert training, housing and a job for local homeless people, in the hope that this will be a stepping stone towards long-term employment. So when you hit Old Spike for a coffee, there’s a feel good factor that comes with your caffeine fix! You can read Lucy’s story here.
Coffee beans rotate regularly – check out the website to see what’s available now, buy online or pop in for a cup and a chat. Oh and definitely one of their amazing brownies, or a Crosstown Doughnut…
Check the opening hours before visiting, as the cafe is sometimes closed on roasting days.
