Hotel Praktik Rambla: Affordable, historic, high design hotel in Barcelona

Ideally located in the heart of the Eixample district of Barcelona, surrounded by many of Gaudi’s architectural works of art, you’ll find Hotel Praktik Rambla. Once a spectacular 19th century palace on the elegant Rambla Catalunya, it has been transformed into a stunning 43-room hotel.
The Baroque-style features of the building were painstakingly preserved during the refurbishment in 2009, to create a stunning designer hotel with the original mosaic floors and high, moulded ceilings that characterised the building in its hey-day.
The interior design (which is the work of Lázaro Rosa-Violán) is iconic, stylish and striking, and the perfect complement to the historic canvas of the building. The colour palette is predominantly monochromatic, with occasional flashes of colour – like the stunning bottle green tiles in the bathrooms.
The full height atrium from the ground floor reception desk all the way up to the glass roof is quite breath-taking, with intricate Juliet balconies and wall carvings up all six storeys. The doors off the central stairwell are mighty photogenic too.
I would highly recommend booking a Deluxe Double (or trying your luck for an upgrade upon arrival!) as these face outwards, affording more natural light, large bathrooms and plenty of space.
Standard Double bedrooms face onto the atrium so, while still stunning, they are not as bright and breezy.
There’s even a terrace on the back side of the hotel – a tranquil space, it’s the perfect evening sun trap.
And the best part? Hotel Praktik Rambla is wonderfully affordable, with Deluxe rooms from 116€ per night.
