You know the design-focused hipster magazine Monocle? They have a design-focused hipster café in Marylebone too – memorably named The Monocle Café!
I love how every aesthetic detail has been considered at Monocle. The interior is serene and kind of Japanese in appearance, panelled and slatted in light wood.
Dining areas are furnished with mid-century modern furniture pieces with retro accents and fresh flowers.
If you manage to nab a seat out on the pavement it’s great for people-watching, as Monocle is right opposite the celebrity restaurant of choice, Chiltern Firehouse.
There’s Allpress coffee on offer, plus plenty of drool-worthy pastries (from Swedish bakery, Fabrique) and cakes (many of them green, thanks to matcha, from French/Japanese bakery Lanka). They’re all served on airline-style trays that conveniently set the scene for a wildly popular Instagram snap!
Or you can visit for something more substantial, as we did – a beef katsu sandwich and a hearty summer salad, for around £6 each, accompanied by iced coffees in cute little globe glasses.
Ideal for casual catch-ups with bags of style and flavour, I can’t recommend Monocle highly enough.
