La Pâtisserie des Rêves is a famed boutique patisserie brand, wonderfully Parisian yet very modern in its approach to desserts and pastries. The translation of the name means “the patisserie of dreams”, and the boutique is certainly ethereal and unusual, with a hot pink colour palette and whimsical, ornate cakes protected under temperature-controlled glass domes. I was a total kid in a candy shop 🙂
Founded by pioneering pastry chef Philippe Conticini, La Pâtisserie des Rêves is his daydream made real. Philippe’s passion for puddings and enormous expertise on the subject were quite apparent from the conversation I had with him, as he explained (in a very heavy French accent!) how each cake is dreamt up, created and tweaked till it’s perfect in the laboratory (yes – these cakes are so incredible they are created in a lab!)
I had been invited to the Marylebone boutique to try the brand new ice cream sundaes that Philippe has created, each mirroring the flavours and textures of three bestselling puddings: Paris Brest, St Honoré and Tarte au Citron. Obviously we tried the corresponding cakes alongside the ice creams – all in the name of research, of course! I can confirm that each was divine – with the St Honoré pastry being my favourite.
First launched in Marylebone earlier this year, a second branch of La Pâtisserie des Rêves has just opened in South Kensington, doubling your opportunity to truly indulge your sweet tooth at this luxurious spot.
