Fischer’s is “a local place” that recently opened in Marylebone and is doing a fine job of transporting you to the Vienna of the mid-1900s the second you cross the threshold.
The décor and the artwork succeed in strongly evoking Vienna and, standing on the street outside, just one glimpse into the homely, glowing interior is enough to draw you in to sample this slice of comforting Austrian for yourself.
Once seated beneath the large central clock and authentic Austrian and Tyrolean paintings, the transportation in both time and place continues with a menu starring schnitzels, würstchen, käsespätzle and strudels, all reasonably priced and served in a classic and formal manner by the suited and booted waiting staff.
I enjoyed a pre-work breakfast in the week following Fischer’s’ opening, ordering a huge, hearty bowl of Birchermüsli for just £4.25. I loved my visit, not just because the muesli was the best I’ve ever tasted, but also because the environment and staff were bang on the mark, without a single hiccup.
Fischer’s is the latest venture from Corbin and King, who have already nailed it with The Ivy, Le Caprice, Brasserie Zédel, The Delaunay, The Wolseley and many more eateries, making it no surprise that this is another perfectly executed hotspot that needs to go top of your To Do list.
