Maybe I’m a bit slow on the uptake, but I recently discovered how fabulous Marylebone is! I have visited on two gloriously sunny days in the past week, and now I’m totally hooked. I should apologise for the highly calorific nature of the majority of my previous recommendations, but this one you will thank me for. Shock horror, it’s actually nutritious and delicious and totally healthy! My latest love? Roots & Bulbs.
Roots & Bulbs is London’s first cold-pressed juice bar. The main difference between this and other wannabes is in the cold pressing – a careful technique that preserves more nutrients by utilising the nutrient-rich pulp of the 100% organic produce, to create drinks that are brimming with natural goodness and flavour.
Founder Sarah did some serious research before launching Roots & Bulbs, taking her health into her own hands and focusing on the connection between what you put into your body and how you feel. Her feeling of intense wellbeing drove her to share the discovery with other time-poor Londoners with the launch of Roots & Bulbs, allowing her customers to focus on better, cleaner real food and healthy living on the go. In this video Sarah talks about the benefits of Roots & Bulbs’ juices and smoothies.
Roots & Bulbs guarantees real juices made from ingredients that do not compromise, with no pesticides or sugary fruits – ingredients like organic homemade almond milk, raw cacao powder, hemp protein powder, seeds, nuts and coconut water. I met Sarah in-store and taste tested many of the smoothies and juices on the menu.
The G1 green cold pressed juice (with cucumber, celery, spinach, lemon, ginger and spice) was refreshing with a satisfying kick of heat as an aftertaste (£4.99 for 250ml).
Roots & Bulb’s smoothies are light blended, to retain maximum beneficial fibre and nutrients of the organic superfood ingredients. I tasted the Gym Freak smoothie (almond milk, banana, maca, peanut butter, protein powder), which was thick and filling – it would suffice as a meal, I reckon.
I opted for the Smart Smoothie (banana, cocoa powder, dates, coffee, walnuts and fresh-out-of-the-coconut water) – with a kick of caffeine but with so much natural goodness, it kept me going for hours and was super flavoursome and filling to boot (£6.49 for 300ml). There’s almond milk cold brewed coffee too, which just sounds like the healthiest caffeine fix around!
I love this place. It’s within walking distance of my office too, so Roots & Bulbs can expect to see me around more often 🙂
