Ace & Tate: Stylish, affordable prescription glasses online

Back in January, I received doctor’s orders to wear my contact lenses less, so my hunt for the perfect pair of specs began.  Completely by chance, my Instagram obsession lead me to Ace & Tate, a company selling glasses that are designed in Amsterdam and made in Italy.

Their European origins and online presence are no issue for style-conscious Londoners, however, as Ace & Tate operate a slick Home Try-On service which is completely free.  But the main thing that caught my eye?  Glasses including prescription lenses for the tidy sum of £89 – which is incredible!  Prescription glasses from any other highstreet opticians usually cost around £250, but Ace & Tate cut out the middle man and associated retail costs and pass these savings onto you, four eyes.

On a mission to make it possible for both men and women to change their glasses as often as they change their sneakers, Ace & Tate design frames you’ll love, and sell them at a fair price.  Designs are based on classic heritage shapes with a twist of modern European design, and frames are crafted from traditional acetate (acetate… ace&tate – geddit?!) at a family-owned workshop in northern Italy.

Highstreet opticians tend to offer a range of overly technical and expensive lens options, however Ace & Tate have done their research and selected a premium synthetic lens which comes included in the price of any of their frames.  With anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating and UV protection, you are guaranteed clarity of vision, protection and no glare.  And as I said: £89!!

And as if that wasn’t enough to convince you to get shopping online, Ace & Tate partner with SightSavers charity, to provide glasses to people living in the world’s poorest countries.  With their ‘Double Vision Initiative‘, every pair of glasses you purchase helps to provide someone in need with access to eyecare.

Finding your perfect match at Ace & Tate is easy.  You can order up to four frames to try on at home, allowing you to pick the perfect pair for you.  4 frames, 5 days, 100% free.  Once decided, ship them back and place your order online, entering your prescription details so that a brand new pair of frames can be custom built for you.  Or if you’re too impatient to wait for the post to try before you buy, there’s an online Virtual Try-On service too!

I actually went through two rounds of home try-on, and finally settled on my perfect pair: the Alex frames in Cayman Havana.  They’re sturdy, stylish and extremely well made, and I will definitely buy my next pair of glasses from Ace & Tate too.
