Five years ago, a team of restaurateurs transformed a boarded-up pub on Hackney Road into the East End institution that is the Sebright Arms. In search of a new challenge, they decided The Vincent was it, and a new all-day dining spot was born, in Hackney Downs.
It’s safe to say I fell head over heels in love upon stepping through The Vincent’s front door. Floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides, huge raffia pendant lamps hanging from the double-height ceiling, and an indoor forest of palms, banana trees and cheese plants – a combination that created an incredibe oasis for enjoying your brunch and (bottomless) coffee upon a tile-topped table.
And it really is all about brunch if you want to enjoy the space in all its naturally lit glory! The Sebright’s famed cheeseburger is present on the menu, along with hashes, waffles and jam jars of dippy eggs with soldiers. Then there are Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Hugos, proper coffee, and a cake counter to make you drool.
I’m still dreaming of that potted tropical forest though…
