I’m kind of totally and utterly head over heels obsessed with Padella, the fresh pasta joint on the edge of Borough Market. There’s a perpetual queue snaking back towards London Bridge station, but I can promise you that the Italian restaurant hidden behind the orderly mob is 100% worth the wait. So jump in the queue, order a Negroni or a Spritz while you wait, and get ready to do pasta properly.
The counter seats make an ideal vantage point for watching the pasta being hand rolled and served with simple sauces and fillings, finished with a flurry of fresh parmesan. In my experience, Padella’s simplest dishes are the best – pici cacio & pepe blows my mind every time, and pappardelle with 8-hour Dexter beef shin ragu is like nothing else…
Between two people, I tend to order a couple of starters (olives + burrata) and three pasta dishes to share tapas-style, for around £30 (not including drinks or service). Visit at a weird hour to minimise queuing (avoid 6-9pm).
