Austin’s 6th Street gets a bad rep… but I promise if you continue east, past all the stag do-filled, sticky-floored, cheap tequila-fueled bars, you’ll reach some far classier joints. One of which deserves a special mention: Chicon.
Recently opened, and with a flawless and oh-so-photogenic interior décor scheme to show for it, Chicon is a top choice for brunch. The menu is succinct, featuring brunchtime favourites (breakfast sandwiches, chorizo hash and banana bread with chamomile butter) plus cocktails (including a Breakfast Old Fashioned, with bourbon, maple syrup and coffee bitters).
And then there’s The Elvis, a sweet/savoury combination so polarized and decadent but that somehow totally works: brioche, pork belly, coconut cream, peanut butter cream and caramelized banana!? The mind boggles.
Luckily Cuvee Coffee is right next door if you need coffee to combat the food coma…!
Chicon also serves lunch and dinner.
