I am a big fan of Workshop Coffee, and a fairly long-standing one at that. Its Fitzrovia coffee bar, bang next door to spinning favourite Psycle, is probably my favourite caffeination point in all of London, thanks to the aesthetic perfection of the interior and the awesome beverages made by the friendliest baristas.
It was back in 2011 that Workshop first hit London, with the Clerkenwell spot acting as a 3-in-1 cafe, restaurant and roastery, focused on bringing the very best coffee to the neighbourhood.
While the obsession with coffee has never faltered, the food menu is not to be ignored either, and Clerkenwell is the only one of the Workshop establishments to function as a full restaurant, serving everything from bircher muesli (incredible) to sweetcorn fritters (serious hangover cure) to rare breed hamburgers, with coffee, tea, wine or beer to wash it down.
It’s rustic and super trendy (there’s Aesop soap in the bathrooms, and a living wall from floor to glass ceiling!), as befits its sought-after EC1 location, and there’s no better place to kick off your weekend – though don’t leave it too late in the day, as Workshop’s superiority as a brunch spot is no secret to the locals.
