André Saraiva, graffiti artist and international club owner, is venturing into a new category of entertainment and delight, by opening the painfully hip Café Henrie in Manhattan’s Chinatown.
Counter Culture coffee is served in beautiful custom-made ceramic cups from Memphis. Décor is an eclectic mix, all in sugary hues of turquoise and pink – Prouvé items (from Saraiva’s very own apartment), a bench fashioned from a salvaged police barricade, pegboard walls, 50s style diner stools and a mini-exhibition of (often provocative) artworks curated by the editor of Purple Fashion magazine.
Food is brunch fare, and served till 7pm – lots of eggs, avocado and smoked salmon, prettily prepared and presented by Bronx-born chef, Marquis Hayes, the self-described former drug dealer who turned to cooking – which he does exceptionally well.
Pop down for coffee and/or brekkie, and be sure to capture an impossibly stunning Instagram moment…
