You could battle the hoards at Borough Market, getting sweatier and more stressed with each pushy crowd member who muscles past you… Or you could pop to Pulia, just round the corner, for exceptional southern Italian fare. It’s your call.
Specialising in produce from Puglia (nope, I can’t explain why the restaurant name has dropped the G from Puglia!), a region with rich soil and a balanced Mediterranean climate, Pulia bases its offering on traditional cooking practices that have been passed down through the generations.
I’d recommend a morning visit, as Pulia’s breakfast offering is pretty fantastic. Think fresh and authentic sweet and savoury pastries – the “Nutty Heart” was my weakness; a flakey heart shaped pastry stuffed with Nutella and served warm – with eyes bigger than my stomach I managed to devour several!
If you fancy continuing the Italian foodie theme, have a nose around the Pulia deli, and stock up on olive oil in a multitude of flavours, grissini, meats and cheeses – traditionally packaged, they make great gifts for foodies too.
