Heartcore is hard core. Step into the studio and you’ll be wowed by the beautiful interior design and luxe facilities, but make no mistake – this hour is going to hurt.
Heartcore is all about results, and taking the necessary actions to achieve them. Luckily the studios are covered in motivational quotes and slogans. “I’m not here to be average. I’m here to be awesome” stretches the length of the corridor in the City studio; lockers in Fulham are not numbered, instead labelled with Wow, Champ, Hero, Rockstar… It’s all about putting you in the right mindset for totally smashing the killer workouts!
Workout-wise, there are a few to choose from:
Sign up for an hour of TRX with Gok and prepare to sweat as you use gravity and your own body weight. A charismatic and imposing bloke, he took us through pikes, planks, weight ball slams, jump squats, one-legged lunges and So. Many. Burpees…! Resistance and HIIT, all rolled into one sweaty, burning hour.
Now I work out a lot, and I like my workouts to be hard. With Gok’s TRX, I’d found my match. I gave it my all and boy did I feel it the next day (and the day after…) – this is one of the most challenging classes I’ve found in London (similar to New York’s Tone House) – a real fat-burner.
Then there’s Dynamic Pilates, using reformer equipment. I’d recommend a class from founder Jess Schuring. In a class of 10 at the City studio, Jess still managed to correct the form of individual attendees, helping you to realign, stretch that bit further and really push it.
As she goaded us on with “You’re working on your abs for you and you only – no one else can do the work and no one else will get the benefits” and “You’ve probably been sat on your tush all day, so let’s get the blood back into it now” (said in a thick German accent!), the class was intense, and set to a soundtrack of carefully curated motivational music. My inner thighs the next day… Ouch!
And finally there are Barre classes – a sequence of micro-movements for the ultimate definition and sculpting, working muscle fibres to the point of fatigue to achieve a “natural corset effect”! Attending regular Barre classes promises to achieve a long and lean look!
And once you’re done working out, the beautiful changing rooms, showers and hair tools are mighty appealing!
