Bull In A China Shop is the latest offering from the team behind nearby Drunken Monkey dim sum parlour. A trendy Shoreditch destination, right opposite the Tea Building, it boasts an impressive back bar that’s chock full of Japanese whiskies – everything from cool to rare, plus a couple of Scotches, and some inventive whisky cocktails thrown in for those of us less civilized 😉
If ordering whisky, I suggest sitting up at the long copper-topped bar to watch it being served, as the barman wields a giant ice saw, skilfully hacking away to produce a perfect ice sculpture to grace your glass (mine was a humongous diamond – very impressive!).
The menu is diverse and versatile, suitable for all day, every day. The rotisserie chicken has gained a lot of attention, and rightly so – it’s super moist, having been brined with ginger, marinaded overnight in yoghurt, and glazed with Nikka whisky. Order it by the quarter, half or whole, with some tasty and far-from-basic salad side dishes.
Eggs Benedict, charcoal bun chicken burgers (activated charcoal is an oft-used ingredient here – there’s a Charcoal Old Fashioned on the menu too?!) and hearty salads complete the offering, along with some drool-inducing desserts.
