For rainy days and date nights, you’ll be glad to know about the Firmdale Hotels’ film clubs – an ingenious package deal that treats you to a fancy brunch or dinner in the hotel restaurant, followed by a screening in the high design in-hotel cinema. The film line-up is impressive, and features recent releases, Oscar winners and classics.
I was treated to the Oscars Best Picture winner, Birdman, following a most indulgent brunch at Covent Garden Hotel. Guests are invited to raid the buffet table for fresh fruits, cereals and pastries, and order an item from the à la carte menu – everything from pancakes to pea fritters to chorizo hash. All of this, plus the movie, and a Bloody Mary or Prosecco will set you back just £35 – which is a darn good deal if you think about the cost of an Odeon ticket – and that doesn’t include the incredible dose of interior design that you are treated to in all of the Firmdale Hotels (thanks to interior design aficionado Kit Kemp)!
There are three hotels around central London to choose from:
Covent Garden Hotel – a two-course meal in Brasserie Max and a red leather seat for the film… Listings can be found here.
Soho Hotel – three courses at Refuel, then a film (from this list) in one of the two in-hotel screening rooms. (The Soho Hotel also offers National Theatre Live – a meal and a performance screened live from the National Theatre‘s stage for £45.)
