Bad Egg is confusing. In amongst the modern glass skyscrapers of Moorgate, it feels rather out of place – set on the ground floor of City Point, it’s so shiny, with glass on three sides, but inside it’s industrially styled with laid back Caribbean vibes and loud music.
But despite all signs telling you to turn around, I do actually encourage you to go inside. Service is super friendly and fast, the menu is comprehensive, and you couldn’t find better hangover food if you tried! This is the latest venture from Neil Rankin, of The Smokehouse Islington and Pitt Cue Co Soho fame. He’s a self-confessed “egg pervert” (more confusing terms…) and so is well placed to make you brunch.
My Cheeseburger Hash (£8.50) was basically a deconstructed cheeseburger in a bowl – chunks of meat, gherkins, potato chips, cheese and plenty of burger sauce (to this day I still don’t know what flavour the ambiguously named ‘burger sauce’ is meant to be, but I absolutely love it!), with a baked egg on top. So good!
There are bottomless brunch options that need exploring further too – bottomless Bloody Mary or Mimosa cocktails and endless plates for around £30.
