Hubbard & Bell succeeded in making all my interior design dreams come true when I visited for breakfast last weekend.
Hubbard & Bell is located in The Hoxton hotel which recently opened by Holborn station. Enter the lobby past a stack of vintage suitcases, pass through the Brooklyn-style bar…
Then you come to a coffee counter, dominated by a La Marzocco espresso machine (Origin Coffee is served) and piled high with a mouth watering array of home-baked goods (every day that passes where I don’t get to try one of those lime-sugared coconut cream-filled doughnuts is killing me!!).
Once you’ve wiped up the pool of drool and torn yourself away from the cake display, the restaurant awaits – mustard yellow leather booths, giant metal pendant lights, an open kitchen dominating the length of the dining area, and a menu that’s original, carefully curated and reasonably priced.
My sourdough pancakes (£7) were topped with sweet stewed pineapple and brown butter. I brought some balance to the meal with an H&B super food smoothie (£5) of blueberries, spirulina, almond milk and chia. Or just look at this plate of steak and eggs…. phwoar!
From the all day menu, I am reliably informed that the octopus with chorizo (£9) is to die for. My heart is set on returning to Hubbard & Bell for a Sunday roast, where chicken, rib of beef and pork belly are all no doubt impeccably served for around £16.
Some venues just get everything right, and this Holborn gem is my latest obsession which is doing just that.
If you ever need somewhere to stay in the central London area, The Hoxton hotel is a beautiful place to call home during your stay:
