Today marks the first day of Cinnamon Bun Week, so what better way to celebrate than popping along to Nordic Bakery, home of the traditional bun?
The team behind Nordic Bakery dreamt of bringing Nordic dark rye bread and cinnamon buns to London and so, in 2007, they opened the first Nordic Bakery on Golden Square, Soho.
The signs on the window shout out to Golden Square and give you several good reasons to head into the bakery:
The open sandwiches are thankfully not too filling, meaning I had room for dessert. There was no decision to be made – obviously I would have a cinnamon bun (though the other cakes on offer looked pretty appetising too).
The cinnamon buns are fresh and kept toasty warm in a heated basket on the counter (~£2.50). Fist-sized, sticky with sugar and baked golden, the buns are seriously dense and filling.
I had mine with a latte (which was sadly rather watery), and was feeling pretty stuffed by the time I was done eating!
Cinnamon Bun Week runs from Monday 29th September until Saturday 4th October. Nordic Bakery will be serving up a different flavour of bun each day, until Saturday when the counters will be filled with all of the limited edition flavours. Enjoy!
