Grillshack is one of my fave Soho haunts, and has been since it first opened last year. I love a good diner, and this modern take on the traditional American version is really excellent. It’s recently had a makeover, of both the interior and the menu, so I thought it was about time I shared it on Have You Heard Of It? 🙂
The menu is concise, sectioned off for breakfast (served till 11:30am on weekdays) and all-day. On weekends, there’s fabulous sweet/savoury brunch amalgamation that’s served all day.
Breakfast ranges from the Carb Free to the Extra Protein Breakfast, and also covers eggs, French toast and buttermilk pancakes. The pricing is exceedingly good value – a stack of five pancakes for £5.95, for example, or a sausage sandwich for £3.95.
The all-day menu features plenty of burgers (beef, pulled pork and chicken), steak, ribs, chicken and mac & cheese, all for less than £10. Having visited so often, I’ve tried a lot of things on the menu, but I always come back to the flat iron steaks – so tender and flavoursome, they’re battered thin and are cooked just the way I like them.
If you remember one thing from this review, let it be this: Save. Room. For. Dessert.
Whether you have a hankering for pancakes, chocolate brownies, cheesecake or carrot cake, Grillshack will do it, and do it well. But I only have eyes for one thing on the dessert menu: the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. Previously less than £3, it has sadly gone up in price (probably due to popular demand!) to £4.50, however these two soft-baked triple chocolate cookies, encasing a thick splurge of vanilla ice cream, are still totally worth the money!
Grillshack does takeaway, as well as eating in. Be sure to keep an eye on the offers page of their website – for example, the Neighbourhood offer allows anyone living/working in the surrounding area to claim a free drink or carrot cake!
