The revolving doors of Mamounia Lounge transport you away from the haze of shisha smoke lingering on the Mayfair pavement, and into a Middle Eastern world of OTT opulence, beautiful waiting staff, and live entertainment.
Newly refurbished and bursting with Arabian charm, Mamounia Lounge serves up fresh and authentic Lebanese and Moroccan dishes, with potent and expertly crafted cocktails.
Décor-wise, Mamounia pulls out all the stops, with giant handmade crystal chandeliers, shimmering copper walls and moody sunset-hued backlighting, to create a plush setting that’s perfectly suited to the indulgence that followed.
Our waiter looked like the modelling god Tyson Beckford (!), and encouraged us to order plates and plates of the meze dishes – our tabletop was soon covered with dishes of halloumi, hummus, kibbeh, babbaganoush, arayes and merguze sausages. But we didn’t stop with the savoury. A tropical fruit platter was the perfect finale – I’m still marvelling out how they managed to find such flavoursome, ripe fruits in the middle of the British winter! I felt like I ate my weight in pineapple, mango, persimmon, strawberries and kiwi.
Definitely order a feast of small plates to share, tapas-style. I’m sure the mains are nice, but with so much goodness, you don’t want to limit yourself to a single dish.
Definitely finish up with a fruit platter.
Not cheap. We were lucky to dine on the house, but the small plates were roughly £6 each, and we ordered 8-10 between two people; fruit platter was £15 (share between two).
Dates. That is the moodiest mood lighting I’ve ever experienced.
None, officially, however I was the odd one out in jeans and a sweater, when everyone around me was swathed in fur and adorned with Chanel!
